Banksy is world famous; a cheeky, irreverent, politically savvy, street artist.
Who has managed to remain anonymous to the vast majority of people in spite of
huge international fame. Who is Banksy? Maybe he is actually a she, the
individual walking towards you down the street, the person sitting next to you
on your daily commute, or could be it's the local business owner moonlighting?

I like the idea that the enigmatic Banksy might be any one of the ordinary folk
we encounter daily.

Kim Guthrie 2011

"When his fellow slaves stood up and declared "I am Spartacus" the anonymous members of the slave
revolt became, each and every one, the arch enemy of Rome.

Sharing an infamous identity, the subjects in Kim Guthrie's new project I'M BANKSY are re-framed by
virtue of a T-shirt and a camera; Kim has crowd-shared Banksy's anonymity and infamy unto the masses.
Each person photographed is crowned withthe possible thrill of suspicion of being 'the one'! Which
allows us to speculate that we are all our own 'the one'.

By accosting people on the street and making generous portraits Kim Guthrie reasserts the democratic
potentials of the genrefied 'Street art' movement."
